Big Bend National Park is in the far southwestern corner of Texas. The park borders with Mexico and you can cross the Rio Grande if you have a passport. The landscape is varied and vast. Within the park, there are sea and dinosaur fossils, as well as the entire Chisos Mountain range. The park is best visited from November to March, when the average temperature ranges from 75-90 Fahrenheit. The park is an International Dark Sky Park. There is a lodge in the park which is perfect for night sky viewing.
If you are interested in visiting Mexico, it is as easy as crossing the Rio Grande. There are individuals who for a small fee will ferry you across the shallow river as well as those who will offer you a ride up to the town of Boquillas del Carmen. It is also possible to cross without paying for any of these "conveniences." While in Boquillas you can have a meal, buy some souvenirs, and enjoy the scenery from the other side of the river.
